A functional backpack developed for the Japan national blind football team
The Japan national blind football team will participate in the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
As an official supplier to the team, MOTHERHOUSE has developed an original backpack with special functions to support the team's success.
We studied the question of "what is a user-friendly bag for people who are blind or visually impaired?" and came up with a number of ideas, which resulted in functions that are convenient and easy to use for all backpack users.
Multifunctional pockets that allow intuitive usability
There are pockets that open wide on each side of the front of the bag. These pockets allow for easy insertion and removal of items while carrying the bag with one shoulder strap over your shoulder, which comes in handy when you need to quickly take out items.
The slit pocket on the bottom of the bag has a loop structure into which you can insert a white cane* just by using the sense of touch, and it can also hold a telescopic umbrella and a PET bottle.
This pocket is designed to sink slightly when contents are placed inside, and its opening is specially constructed to catch the contents to prevent them from falling out.

The pocket on the bottom of the bag is suitable for storing a water bottle or a telescopic umbrella and provides smooth access to the contents.
A versatile design that is useful for various casual scenarios
The bag has a sporty yet sophisticated appearance with leather used for the straps, handles, and belts to give an accent to the surface material, which makes the bag perfect not only for going to and back from sport activities, but also for walking around town.
The design matches all types of clothes and is fitting for all casual scenarios. The bag's square form with its wide gusset allows for storing a large amount of contents such as sportswear, shoes, and A4 documents.
The surface material resist soiling and provides a perfect fit when worn
The body of the bag is made of polycarbonate, which is one of the most durable forms of polyurethane.
Polyurethane is light and dirt-resistant, which provides ease of use.
In developing this bag, we asked people who are blind or visually impaired for their opinions and learned that they are sometimes concerned that their bags may be dirty without them knowing it.
That's why we decided to use polyurethane for the body of the bag, which is resistant to dirt and easy to clean even when it gets dirty.
This material is soft and flexible, and fits your body perfectly when worn.
